Pipe wrench

The pipe wrench, or Stillson® wrench is an adjustable wrench used for turning soft iron pipes and fittings with a rounded surface. The design of the adjustable jaw allows it to rock in the frame, such that any forward pressure on the handle tends to pull the jaws tighter together. Teeth angled in the direction of turn dig into the soft pipe. They are not for use on hard hex nuts.

Hydronic heating

Hydronics is the name for the use of water as the heat-transfer medium in heating and cooling systems.

Circulator pump

A circulator pump is a specific type of pump used to circulate gases, liquids, or slurries in a closed circuit. They are commonly found circulating water in a hydronic heating or cooling system. Because they only circulate liquid within a closed circuit, they only need to overcome the friction of a piping system (as opposed to lifting a fluid from a point of lower potential energy to a point of higher potential energy).

Pex pipe

PEX is the common name for cross-linked high-density polyethylene. PEX is formed into tubing, and is used predominantly in hydronic radiant heating systems. It is also used in natural gas applications.

Teflon tape

Thread seal tape –commonly known as Teflon tape or plumbers tape- is a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) film cut to specified widths for use in sealing pipe threads. The tape is wrapped around the exposed threads of a pipe and creates an air- and watertight seal when threaded into a joint.

Heat exchanger

A heat exchanger is a device built for efficient heat transfer from one fluid to another fluid or to air, whether the fluids are separated by a solid wall so that they never mix, or the fluids are directly contacted. They are widely used in refrigeration, air conditioning, space heating, electricity generation, and chemical processing. One common example of a heat exchanger is the radiator in a car, in which the hot radiator fluid is cooled by the flow of air over the radiator surface.

H.V.A.C.

HVAC (pronounced either "H-V-A-C" or, occasionally, "H-VAK") is an initialism/acronym that stands for "heating, ventilating, and air conditioning". This is sometimes referred to as climate control.

Plenum

A chamber that is attached to the furnace
outlet. The plenum functions as an airmixing
chamber before sending the air to the living
spaces. It also provides the necessary surface for
attaching takeoffs and starting collars
